Building beyond Lakoff's election-year best-seller, Don't Think of an Elephant, this new book shows how the values of American voters are dramatically shifting. With the arrival of the 2008 election year, a rising "feminized majority"-made up of both women and men-is emerging as the pivotal force in American politics. Emerging trends show these values are broadly progressive and address not just the needs of women but the general interests of society. They are held by women substantially more than by men but have become the values held by a majority of all voters, including millions of men. Like earlier eras in American history, such as the New Deal, the rise of the feminized majority today presents an opportunity for the Democrats to become the governing party for decades to come. Looking beyond the 2008 election, Adam and Derber describe a new political strategy that targets the feminized base and opens up a window for major social justice movements to make progressive change. Like Lakoff's, this striking new book-perfectly timed for election year 2008-offers a new vocabulary for every citizen who wants to understand (and reimagine) American politics. It will intrigue and provoke readers, stirring new conversation among progressives and new insights for every citizen interested in politics, morality, religion, values, and social justice.

An investigation of Chaucer's thinking about women, assessed in the light of developments in feminist criticism. Women are a major subject of Chaucer's writings, and their place in his work has attracted much recent critical attention. Feminizing Chaucer investigates Chaucer's thinking about women, and re-assesses it in the light of developments in feminist criticism. It explores Chaucer's handling of gender issues, of power roles, of misogynist stereotypes and the writer's responsibility for perpetuating them, and the complex meshing of activity and passivityin human experience. Mann argues that the traditionally 'female' virtues of patience and pity are central to Chaucer's moral ethos, and that this necessitates a reformulation of ideal masculinity. First published [as Geoffrey Chaucer] in the series 'Feminist Readings', this new edition includes a new chapter, 'Wife-Swapping in Medieval Literature'. The references and bibliography have been updated, and a new preface surveys publications in the field over the last decade. JILL MANN is currently Notre Dame Professor of English, University of Notre Dame.

Do you want to feminize a male, or you as a male want, or have been told to, become feminized? Feminization: 1) To give a feminine appearance or character to. 2) To cause (a male) to assume feminine characteristics. This is not for those who wish to permanently change their gender, but rather for those who wish to feminize temporarily, though sometimes repeatedly and regularly, in order to proficiently crossdress as a woman. This feminization guide is for a male by gender who, may, or may not be, a "real" man by some opinions, but nonetheless a male, who has chosen, or has been told to, or is being coerced into, becoming feminine in appearance and character. This guide is to be given to those who have been tasked with becoming a feminized male as part of a process to feminize them, or purchased for use by males who wish to feminize themselves. It doesn't have any magic potions or formulas, special makeup or fancy tools, use any drugs or surgery. It does cover all the aspects of eliminating the 'man markers' that set males aside from women, and make a male less feminine than they could ultimately be. It will demasculinize anything that may have had a masculine overtone with the male. It will also aid the feminized male to feel more sensual and sexy in a feminine role. The guide is short - about 15.000 words and around sixty pages, but covers eliminating the things that keep a male from becoming as fully feminized as much as their male body and characteristics allow. After the male has read this, acted upon this information fully, and practiced, he will be the best feminized male he can be. He will reach crossdressing perfection as a male to female (MTF) cross dresser. He will have the routines of maintenance and upkeep of the feminized male body, which will keep him ready, and most likely anxious, to fairly quickly, crossdress at the request of their wife, mistress, or whim of his own. Whether the reason be from femdom, a wife led relationship, female led relationship, cuckolding, cuckoldry, a hot wife, male chastity, forced crossdressing, forced chastity, female domination, submissive training, sissy training, or purely their own desire to become feminine, a diligent male student who incorporates the information in this guide with passion and drive will become the perfect crossdressing male, as fully feminized as possible. Upon following the elements in this guide, the feminized male will be able to proudly display how feminine he has become to anyone he, or the one who coerced him, choose to. Should this be a singular undertaking, the individual will be able to see and feel the difference in the degree of feminization they have achieved after practicing and perfecting the elements, and thus, bring greater pleasure and satisfaction to the resulting feminization. This will be time consuming and will require dedication and diligence in order for a male to feminize to his best. If you are purchasing this for yourself, or someone else, beware of that in order to allow the necessary time and resources. Look inside now. Buy yourself a copy, or give one to a male you want to feminize. It is a small, but valuable investment in a male's journey toward maximum feminization.

Case studies upon the use of concepts like feminization and masculinization in relation to christianity. Since the 1970s the feminization thesis has become a powerful trope in the rewriting of the social history of Christendom. However, this 'thesis' has triggered some vehement debates, given that men have continued to dominate the churches, and the churches themselves have reacted to the association of religion and femininity, often formulated by their critics, by explicitly focusing their appeal to men. In this book the authors critically reflect upon the use of concepts like feminization and masculinization in relation to Christianity.

What happens when a woman dares to imagine herself a hero? Questing, she sets out for unknown regions. Lighting a torch, she elicits from the darkness stories never told or heard before. The woman hero sails against the tides of great legends that recount the adventures of heroic men, legends deemed universal, timeless, and essential to our understanding of the natural order that holds us and completes us in its spiral. Yet these myths and rituals do not fulfill her need for an empowering self-image nor do they grant her the mobility she requires to imagine, enact, and represent her quest for authentic self-knowledge. The Feminization of Quest-Romance proposes that a female quest is a revolutionary step in both literary and cultural terms. Indeed, despite the difficulty that women writers face in challenging myths, rituals, psychological theories, and literary conventions deemed universal by a culture that exalts masculine ideals and universalizes male experience, a number of revolutionary texts have come into existence in the second half of the twentieth century by such American women writers as Jean Stafford, Mary McCarthy, Anne Moody, Marilynne Robinson, and Mona Simpson, all of them working to redefine the literary portrayal of American women's quests. They work, in part, by presenting questing female characters who refuse to accept the roles accorded them by restrictive social norms, even if it means sacrificing themselves in the name of rebellion. In later texts, female heroes survive their "lighting out" experiences to explore diverse alternatives to the limiting roles that have circumscribed female development. This study of The Mountain Lion, Memories of a Catholic Girlhood, Coming of Age in Mississippi, Housekeeping, and Anywhere but Here identifies transformations of the quest-romance that support a viable theory of female development and offer literary patterns that challenge the male monopoly on transformative knowledge and heroic action.
