About the Book Serial killers have fascinated the public for decades, sparking a myriad of discussions on their psychological make up, but rarely do we see the subject of handwriting come into the conversation. In this book, certified graphologist John Racher takes a deep dive into the handwriting of the world’s most notorious serial killers and makes illuminating observations into the connection between handwriting and certain personality traits that predispose violence. Possessing these traits, such as a high level of anger and resentment, does not necessarily make one a killer, but as Racher’s research will show, the key to a killer’s personality lies in their handwriting. About the Author John Racher became a certified graphologist (IGAS) in 1983 and has published a number of articles in The Graphologist, the journal of the British Institute of Graphologists. He was born and raised in Southern Ontario, Canada, has an Honors BSc (Microbiology) from the University of Guelph and an MBA from Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario. He also has advanced certification in medical laboratory technology. As a medical laboratory management specialist, John has worked as a consultant across Canada and in the USA, England, Qatar and Kuwait. Since his retirement from medical laboratory management, he has developed a handwriting analysis service specializing in the detection and assessment of untrustworthy and anti-social behavioral traits. John is married and lives in Cambridge, Ontario with his wife Cindy Lou and their two golden retrievers, Ruby and Lewis.

This book presents an in-depth psychological analysis of the development of the serial killer personality that will fascinate all readers, from the experienced criminology student to the casual true-crime reader. Real-Life Monsters: A Psychological Examination of the Serial Murderer takes a different approach than most titles on a similar topic: the author develops and proposes an original psychological explanation, rather than simply repeating some of the long-held theories for these criminals' heinous actions. The work addresses current issues, presents detailed commentary and personal observation, and contains photographs that will fascinate general readers interested in the subjects of true crime, serial killers, and psychopathology. The first part of the book carefully examines the research past and present regarding clinical, psychological, societal, and biological bases for violent behavior, specific to the serial murderer. Part two establishes a novel theory of the pattern of violence and then explores this hypothesis through eight case studies, interviews with serial killers, and elemental analysis. The work also contains a chapter based on conversations between the author and a convicted serial murderer.

I have chosen the BEST OF THE WORST of serial killers to spot light. Ted Bundy, the Son of Sam, the Green River Killer, Jeffrey Dahmer, BTK, Zodiac and some that you may not know. From New York Times bestselling author Pete Earley—the strange but true story of how a young man’s devastating brain injury gave him the unique ability to connect with the world’s most terrifying criminals. Fifteen-year-old Tony Ciaglia had everything a teenager could want until he suffered a horrific head injury at summer camp. When he emerged from a coma, his right side was paralyzed, he had to relearn how to walk and talk, and he needed countless pills to control his emotions. Abandoned and shunned by his friends, he began writing to serial killers on a whim and discovered that the same traumatic brain injury that made him an outcast to his peers now enabled him to connect emotionally with notorious murderers. Soon many of America’s most dangerous psychopaths were revealing to him heinous details about their crimes—even those they’d never been convicted of. Tony despaired as he found himself inescapably drawn into their violent worlds of murder, rape, and torture—until he found a way to use his gift. Asked by investigators from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to aid in solving a murder, Tony launched his own searches for forgotten victims with clues provided by the killers themselves. The Serial Killer Whisperer takes readers into the minds of murderers like never before, but it also tells the inspiring tale of a struggling American family and a tormented young man who found healing and closure in the most unlikely way—by connecting with monsters.

The stories of lived experience offer powerful representations of a nation’s complex and often fractured identity. Personal narratives have taken many forms in American literature. From the letters and journals of the famous and the lesser known to the memoirs of former slaves to hit true crime podcasts to lyric essays to the curated archives we keep on social media, life writing has been a tool of both the influential and the disenfranchised to spark cultural and political evolution, to help define the larger identity of the nation, and to claim a sense of belonging within it. Taken together, individual stories of real American lives weave a tapestry of history, humanity, and art while raising questions about the veracity of memory and the slippery nature of truth. This volume surveys the forms of life writing that have contributed to the richness of American literature and shaped American discourse. It examines life writing as a rhetorical tool for social change and explores how technological advancement has allowed ordinary Americans to chronicle and share their lives with others.
