Technology which enables customers to make smart digital decisions and a wave of innovation in logistics are combining to solve the challenge of "retail's last mile": how to profitably and conveniently sell products to customers shopping from home. Online retail expert Jonathan Reeve forecasts that last-mile innovations will see shopping online overtake shopping in stores within 20 years. Loyalty is one of the main assets of a brand. In today’s markets, achieving and maintaining loyal customers has become an increasingly complex challenge for brands due to the widespread acceptance and adoption of diverse technologies by which customers communicate with brands. Customers use different channels (physical, web, apps, social media) to seek information about a brand, communicate with it, chat about the brand and purchase its products. Firms are thus continuously changing and adapting their processes to provide customers with agile communication channels and coherent, integrated brand experiences through the different channels in which customers are present. In this context, understanding how brand management can improve value co-creation and multichannel experience—among other issues—and contribute to improving a brand’s portfolio of loyal customers constitutes an area of special interest for academics and marketing professionals. This Special Issue explores new areas of customer loyalty and brand management, providing new insights into the field. Both concepts have evolved over the last decade to encompass such concepts and practices as brand image, experiences, multichannel context, multimedia platforms and value co-creation, as well as relational variables such as trust, engagement and identification (among others).

Food traceability is a growing consumer concern worldwide. Traceability is undertaken primarily at the administrative level, where the use of advanced analytical tools is not available. Nevertheless, the determination of geographical origin is a requirement of the traceability system for the import and export of foodstuffs (EU regulation 178/2002). The topics covered in this book include the history of traceability; legislations and rules; the actual traceability techniques and the potential analytical techniques for food traceability such as molecular methods (e.g. DGGE, SSCP), next generation sequencers (NGS), bio-captors, chromatographic techniques, isotopic analysis that are used for discrimination of organic food, fish, oils. The chromatographic techniques help in the use of volatile compounds analysis. The isotope analysis helps in distinguishing between chicken meat and vegetable oils. Ambient mass spectrometry is used for studying mycotoxines and alkaloids in foodstuffs and their management, food and feed authentication in olive and other plant oils, and wine. Vibrational methods (e.g. NMR and NIRS) are used to trace food by global spectrum. The book reviews the current and future techniques including metabolomic techniques.
