Research and empirical work have revealed the importance of psychological/mental skills, factors, and strategies in improving athletic performance, especially in racket sports. High levels of self-confidence, commitment, motivation as well as the ability to imagine, self-regulate, set and achieved goals, control emotion, stress, and anxiety facilitate the ability of the racket sport players to achieve peak performance. For example, players and coaches recognize that the mental or psychological factor should be considered and trained in the same way as the technical or physical components. The aim of this Research Topic is to bring together articles in which psychological techniques, factors, or strategies are discussed, used, or tested in order to improve the performance of racket sport players such as tennis, table tennis, badminton, or squash, and also in new activities such as racketlon, paddle or beach tennis. Topics of primary interest include, but are not limited to: • Mental training for racket sports; • The role of mental coach in racket sports; • Psychological strategies to improve the performance in racket sports; • Relationship between performance and psychological factors; • Applied performance enhancement by means of psychological technics; • Measures of psychological variables in racket sport players; • Training of psychological skills for performance improvement in racket sport.

Behavioral Economics: Behavioral economics is an interdisciplinary field that merges insights from psychology and economics to understand how psychological factors and human behavior influence economic decisions. Unlike traditional economic theory, which assumes that individuals are rational actors who make decisions based on maximizing utility, behavioral economics recognizes that human behavior is often irrational and influenced by cognitive biases, emotions, social norms, and other psychological factors. One of the key areas of study in behavioral economics is understanding the various cognitive biases that affect decision-making. These biases, such as loss aversion, anchoring, and confirmation bias, can lead individuals to make suboptimal choices that deviate from rational economic behavior. Behavioral economists examine how these biases manifest in different contexts, such as consumer choices, investment decisions, and policy preferences, and explore strategies to mitigate their impact. Moreover, behavioral economics investigates the role of emotions and social influences in shaping economic behavior. Emotions, such as fear, greed, and altruism, can significantly impact decision-making processes and outcomes. Social norms, cultural influences, and peer pressure also play a crucial role in shaping individual preferences and choices. Behavioral economists analyze how these psychological factors interact with economic incentives and constraints to influence behavior and decision-making. Furthermore, behavioral economics explores the concept of bounded rationality, which suggests that individuals have limited cognitive resources and processing capacities. Instead of making decisions based on exhaustive analysis and optimization, individuals often rely on heuristics, or mental shortcuts, to simplify complex decision-making tasks. Behavioral economists study how these heuristics affect decision-making quality and explore ways to design decision environments that nudge individuals towards better choices. Another important aspect of behavioral economics is understanding the implications of behavioral insights for public policy and market interventions. Behavioral economists advocate for the use of choice architecture, or the design of decision environments, to steer individuals towards decisions that align with their long-term interests and societal goals. This includes strategies such as default options, pre-commitment devices, and incentives that leverage behavioral insights to promote desirable behaviors, such as saving for retirement, conserving energy, or adopting healthy lifestyles. Moreover, behavioral economics examines how psychological factors influence market outcomes and economic outcomes at the macro level. It investigates phenomena such as market bubbles, herding behavior, and financial crises, which are often driven by collective irrationality and speculative behavior. By understanding the psychological underpinnings of these phenomena, policymakers and regulators can develop more effective measures to promote market stability and mitigate systemic risks. In conclusion, behavioral economics offers a nuanced understanding of economic decision-making by integrating insights from psychology, neuroscience, and economics. By studying cognitive biases, emotional influences, bounded rationality, and social dynamics, behavioral economists shed light on the complexities of human behavior and decision-making. Their research has profound implications for individual well-being, public policy, and market dynamics, offering valuable tools for addressing real-world challenges and promoting more informed and effective decision-making in society.

But what do we actually know about this troubling issue? With an extensive and readable overview of the literature, the committee presents what we do know by examining the major issues: The extent and severity of drug use on and off the job. The strengths and weaknesses of methods for detecting drug use through standard drug tests. The effect of drug use on behavior, including the results of both laboratory and field studies that have examined work-related behavior and worker productivity. The effectiveness of interventions to deal with drug use, such as employee assistance programs, health promotion programs, and treatment programs for substance abuse. This volume will be of practical interest to human resource and employee assistance program managers, policymakers, and investigators.

The Influence and Predictability of Socioeconomic Factors of the 2018 PARCC Middle School ELA Scores in New Jersey By: Dr. Charlene F. Jones This quantitative research, The Influence and Predictability of Socioeconomic Factors of the 2018 PARCC Middle School ELA Scores in New Jersey, examines the predictive power of socioeconomic, parental, and school district factors on student academic achievement. The combined influence of parent education with a bachelor’s degree or higher and free- and reduced-price lunch factors demonstrate the highest statistical significance for predictability in this study. All fundamental variables utilized support a greater discussion on how we, as parents and educators, can influence standardized test results and ensure local education policies and recommendations therein are research-based and implemented effectively in diverse communities. Particularly during this new era, post-pandemic, we seek successful strategies to combat learning loss, increase educational opportunities, and predict, where possible, assessment results—all in support of the future of public education.
