I treat eating pancakes on patios like it's a personality trait.Brunch is my jam. I like the beach, shopping, carbs, and reading naughty books on the train during my commute. I wear pink. Lots of it. If Tinder were an olympic sport, I'd take home the gold. I can rock stilettos like they're a pair of Nike joggers. I'm basically a basic bitch.I'm in the prime of my life. I've got my dream job as the head of marketing at a sex toy company, and I've been steadily dating myself for the better half of the last decade. I'm thirty, flirty, and thriving, dammit.Or at least I was, until some fucker had the audacity to turn me into a vampire.I don't do blood and doom and gloom. I sure as hell don't like sleeping in a coffin, avoiding garlic bread, and these ridiculous vamp politics. And don't get me started on Diego. He's vampire royalty and a pain in my ass. A very sexy pain in the ass. When he's not driving me crazy with all his rules, he's turning my panties into Niagara falls.I absolutely refuse to live the rest of my immortal life in some wannabe nineties grunge music video.

In this marvelously original book, three-time Pulitzer Prize finalist Leslie Savan offers fascinating insights into why we’re all talking the talk—Duh; Bring it on!; Bling; Whatever!—and what this reveals about America today. Savan traces the paths that phrases like these travel from obscure slang to pop stardom, selling everything from cars (ads for VWs, Mitsubishis, and Mercurys all pitch them as “no-brainer”s) to wars (finding WMD in Iraq was to be a “slam dunk”). Real people create these catchy phrases, but once media, politics, and businesses broadcast them, they burst out of our mouths as celebrity words, newly glamorous and powerful. Witty, fun, and full of thought-provoking stories about the origins of popular expressions, Slam Dunks and No-Brainers is for everyone who loves the mysteries of language.

Heres a once in a lifetime opportunity (at least thats what my critics are hoping for) to read my third book. If you already know me, you fully understand the full import as enshrined in the title of what I mean when I say It Sucks To Know Me. For those causal acquaintances, heres your last warning: run, dont walk, before its too late. For once you open this book, your psyche will never be the same. Your mind might explode as you try to reconcile the concept that Karl Marx had a number of good sayings while youre cheering loudly at a Tea Party rally. As I said to my sister after she hadnt spoken to me for six months after reading my first book, I didnt kill any people in my book, they were just lawyers. I was fortunate to have another six months of peace until her brain finally was reset and she forgot why she was no longer speaking to me. For my part, my brain edit function is still out for repair (by court order). I invite all of you to contemplate this as you read this book: Do you consider it to be a worthy addition to the worlds literature or would it have been better if I was never born? Send you votes to my mom whos agreed to tally them for me.

Music, Lyrics, and Life is the songwriting class you always wish you'd taken, taught by the professor you always wish you'd had. It's a deep dive into the heart of questions asked by songwriters of all levels, from how to begin journaling to when you know that a song is finished. With humor and empathy, acclaimed singer-songwriter Mike Errico unravels both the mystery of songwriting and the logistics of life as a songwriter. For years, this set of tools, prompts, and ideas has inspired students on campuses including Yale, Wesleyan, Berklee, Oberlin, and NYU's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. Alongside his own lessons, Errico interviews the writers, producers, and A&R executives behind today's biggest hits and investigates the larger questions of creativity through lively conversations with a wide range of innovative thinkers: astrophysicist Janna Levin explains the importance of repetition, both in choruses and in the exploration of the universe; renowned painter John Currin praises the constraints of form, whether it's within a right-angled canvas or a three-minute pop song; bestselling author George Saunders unpacks the hidden benefit of writing, and revising, authentically; and much more. The result is that Music, Lyrics, and Life ends up revealing as much about the art of songwriting as it does about who we are, and where we may be going. This is a book for songwriters, future content creators, music lovers, and anyone who wants to understand how popular art forms are able to touch us so deeply. Mike Errico has honed these lessons over years of writing, performing, teaching, and mentoring, and no matter where you are on your songwriting journey, Music, Lyrics, and Life will help you build a creative world that's both intrinsic to who you are, and undeniable to whoever is listening.
