The present volume comprises aspects of both basic and applied limnology. They include works on physical, chemical, and biological limnology, as well as experimental approaches in selected areas. Contributions from investigators regarding aquatic conservation and biodiversity were specifically not available and therefore, these aspects are considered in various included works. Most manuscripts deal with lentic aquatic resources. This is not surprising since Mexican limnology followed the general study trend of that from temperate limnology. Despite this, we must emphasize that lotic resources in Mexico are quite important both locally and regionally. This does not mean that rivers are not under limnological research in Mexico, just that their study has only recently begun. It is the intention of the volume to stimulate a larger section of limnologists to further research in this field. It is to be hoped that policy-framing governmental authorities in Mexico will benefit from it, and consider some of the aspects described so that further damage to the epicontinental waterbodies can be halted, and remedial measures can be considered in the future.

CO2 Acidification in Aquatic Ecosystems: An Integrative Approach to Risk Assessment focuses on the characterization of different aspects of ecosystem science to describe the situation of CO2 acidification in aquatic ecosystems. This extensive coverage looks at the effects of CO2 acidification throughout all oceans and coastal areas. In addition, the book describes integrative approaches based on global case studies to determine the effects associated with this kind of acidification. It allows the reader to understand the different sources of CO2 in the aquatic ecosystems and the different approaches and lines of evidence available to characterize the impact of this acidification. This book provides researchers, professors and post graduate students in oceanography and aquatic ecology with a new and complete tool set to address and understand the potential impacts of CO2 acidification in aquatic ecosystems. - Presents case studies and new data related to CO2 acidification in aquatic ecosystems - Includes new approaches for understanding the behavior of organisms in aquatic ecosystems that are suffering stress from different sources of contamination at acidification conditions - Provides an integrated approach to address the environmental quality in areas affected by acidification and contamination by other stressors

Mexico and the Law of the Sea: Contributions and Compromises examines Mexico’s legal work at the Third UN Conference on the Law of the Sea. The volume focuses on Mexico's involvement at the regional Latin American meetings of Montevideo, Lima and Santo Domingo, in addition to its current domestic legislation—the Federal Oceans Act of 1986, in particular. Readers will find an analysis of the legal regime Mexico applies to marine scientific research by foreign vessels, and the constitutional problems caused by the lack of a clear allocation of jurisdiction over islands. Mexico and the Law of the Sea: Contributions and Compromises emphasizes the maritime delimitation treaties Mexico entered into with the United States, Cuba, Honduras, Guatemala and Belize, and also includes an extensive Latin American bibliography on the law of the sea.
