Release: 2008-11-15

ISBN: 0226144070

In this rugged account of a rugged profession, Matthew Desmond explores the heart and soul of the wildland firefighter. Having joined a firecrew in Northern Arizona as a young man, Desmond relates his experiences with intimate knowledge and native ease, adroitly balancing emotion with analysis and action with insight. On the Fireline shows that these firefighters aren’t the adrenaline junkies or romantic heroes as they’re so often portrayed. An immersion into a dangerous world, On the Fireline is also a sophisticated analysis of a high-risk profession—and a captivating read. “Gripping . . . a masterful account of how young men are able to face down wildfire, and why they volunteer for such an enterprise in the first place.”—David Grazian, Sociological Forum “Along with the risks and sorrow, Desmond also presents the humor and comaraderie of ordinary men performing extraordinary tasks. . . . A good complement to Norman Maclean's Young Men and Fire. Recommended.”—Library Journal

Live from the Trenches fills that gap, providing the first examination of television news correspondents and their work, with much of the analysis coming from the correspondents themselves.

This is an autobiography of my life, in which I have shared different segments of time in order to reach out to those that may relate to my experiences. The idea of this book was heavy on my heart for a few years, due to the continued reports of sexual abuse that has been broadcast around our country. The reality that the total number of registered sex offenders in this nation has increased to staggering numbers, beckons for someone to try something to reverse this frightening trend. It is clear that a cycle of perversion has swept our country from generation to generation, harming many innocent victims along the way. It is my goal to create a tool that the Holy Spirit of God can use to change the wicked hearts of those caught in this cycle of perversion. My focus through this book is to share how I was freed from the bondages of sexual immorality. This book describes to the reader how the Lord Jesus worked in my heart and life. Using the wisdom of His Word to re-direct the choices I made on a daily basis. I was changed both mentally and spiritually and I have complete faith that the Lord can too change others overtaken in sexual immorality. This change is laid out in detail in hopes that those affected will learn from my mistakes in order to deter them from making the same mistakes.

For women and girls who have been misunderstood, miss-diagnosed and quite frankly missed altogether in getting an autism diagnosis – THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU. For decades females on the spectrum went undetected causing a lifetime of struggles, anxiety, depression, missed opportunities and incorrect diagnoses. Women and girls tended to fly under the radar due to the fact that they learned from an early age how to mask, mimic and role-play in order to fit in with societal norms and expectations. Due to a lot of research in this field, there are now a lot more evidence-based theories to support the view that autism is just as prevalent in females as it is in males, but it just wasn’t picked up due to the gender difference in presentation. There still needs to be a lot more awareness and information available for women and girls who may feel different but don’t know why. Maybe they have been searching for answers in the wrong places. My mission is to help raise awareness of this condition. And who can do this better than a female on the spectrum that walks, talks and lives each day in those shoes?
